This amazing black opal from Lightning Ridge, Australia is a truly eye-catching stone. With incredibly strong fire running perfectly along the peak of the stone, the piece almost looks as if it is being illuminated from inside the stone. Not only that but the base of the cabochon has also received some polishing and shows a huge flash of brilliant fire and as such the piece could even bet set with the base facing up or better yet in a reversible setting which could show both sides. There are a few small pits on the piece, yet they are barely noticeable and attest to the gems natural origins and show clearly that it is solid opal and not a cheaper doublet or triplet composite stone.
